Are services available in any language other than English?

Services are available in English and Haitian Creole.

What are the methods of payment?

Our fees depend on the type and duration of service.  Payment is expected at the time of service.  If you do not show up for a scheduled appointment, and do not notify us at least 24-hours in advance, you will be required to pay a fee for the time reserved.  We accept cash, checks, and major credit cards.  Please feel free to discuss any billing or payment questions with us.

How long is each appointment?

Counseling sessions are generally 50-60 minutes long.  The initial consultation or intake appointment is approximately 90 minutes. Clients may be seen weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, or in other mutually agreed patterns.

What if I can't make a scheduled appointment?

If you need to cancel your appointment, please give us at least 24-hours notice so that we can reschedule your appointment. If you are more than 15 minutes late for an appointment, Behavioral Solutions reserves the right to reschedule your appointment.

What should I expect during the initial consultation?

You will be asked to complete an intake form with contact information, demographic information, and basic mental health history. You will meet with a counselor to confidentially discuss your presenting issue, gather background information, and determine the most appropriate course of action that addresses your concerns.  Depending on the presenting issue, you may be asked to participate in individual counseling, family counseling, psychological evaluation, and other appropriate services.

What can I expect from counseling?

You can expect someone who is willing to listen to your concerns and help you develop a better understanding of yourself, and learn effective personal and interpersonal success strategies.

Is counseling confidential?

Counseling sessions are private and confidential.  However, there are some exceptions to confidentiality.  These exceptions include if you are an imminent danger to yourself or others, there is suspected child and/or elder abuse, or when a court order for clinical records is issued.  At your first appointment at Behavioral Solutions, you will receive a written summary of guidelines related to confidentiality, including limits to confidentiality, for your review and you will have the opportunity to discuss it with a counselor.

How do I know if I need Counseling?

Determining whether you need professional help and where to go for help is not always easy.  Some individuals seek counseling for long-standing problems and some because of a new troublesome situation.  Counseling may be of help to you if you feel concerned about the following:

  • Grief and loss

  • Family problems

  • Feeling sad or depressed

  • Feeling stressed or anxious

  •  Loss of interest in formerly pleasurable activities

  • Thoughts of suicide

  • Sexual abuse

  • Loneliness

  • Alcohol or substance abuse

  • Divorce
